Using magic to solve problems can be addicting, and, in Fire Study Yelena realizes how much she depends on her magical abilities. In the third book, I wanted to show the extent some magicians will go to gain power over others. Magic Study focused on discovering the extent and type of powers Yelena possesses. Poison Study, which is the first in the Study series, concentrated on Yelena’s inner conflicts and her self-confidence, and only touched briefly on magic. I wanted to explore the uses and abuses of power in this book. Maria recently answered a number of questions about FIRE STUDY, which is available in bookstores near you TODAY!ġ) What was your inspiration for writing Fire Study? You can read about Maria's glass work here: Maria's fascination resulted in her learning how to handle molten glass, in service to her latest novel, FIRE STUDY. My fascination resulted in my Glasswrights series, where I learned about medieval methods for creating stained glass, and then I forced a poor 13-year-old apprentice to apply those methods, while running for her life :-) One other thing that I share with Maria: We are both fascinated by glass. We both like white noise in hotel rooms at conferences. We both have a healthy, respecting love of chocolate. Along the way, I've learned that we share a lot more: We both walk on the edge of fantasy and romance in the publishing world. MindyklaskyI first met Maria Snyder at Book Expo America, in D.C.
